Born in Foggia, Italy, Roberto began his classical training under Maestro Giuseppe Somenzari, completing the Conservatory degree ahead of time and with the highest possible marks.  He also pursued studies in Music Composition at the Conservatory, in addition to completing coursework in Modern Literature at the University of Bari, Italy.

Internationally renowned Maestro Oscar Ghiglia guided him through his advanced training, instructing him in Rome (1998), Gargnano (1998-1999), and the Chigiana Academy of Siena (2000-2001), where he received consecutive Scholarships and “Diploma di Merito”.
Finally, Roberto studied under Maestro Ghiglia at the Basel Academy of Music, graduating in 2003 with honours.  In Basel, he also studied Early Music and Continuo with instructors at the Schola Cantorum.

Winner of numerous classical guitar competitions, notably 1st Prize at the 2004 Gargnano International Competition, his frequent concert performances have spanned across virtually all of Europe.  These include appearances as a soloist, in chamber music formations, and with orchestra.

Since 2006, he is a Member of the Kuratorium of the Hermann Hauser Foundation, and plays a Hermann Hauser II guitar.
In 2010, the Label Gramola of Vienna released his first CD, dedicated to some of the most important sonatas by Paganini, Ponce, Turina, and Ginastera ( “Guitar Sonatas” – Gramola 98894).
Highly sought as an instructor for various Master Classes, Roberto Lemma lives and teaches in Vienna.
